    MDI is seeking an experienced, dynamic Chief Financial Officer to drive the organization’s financial success and to strengthen operations through close collaboration with their CEO. The ideal candidate is ready to serve as a strategic advisor and brings best practices and demonstrated accomplishments in scaling an entrepreneurial organization. Success in this role will depend on assessing, recommending, and implementing initiatives to build critical operational, systems, measurement, and financial practices and procedures to deliver on company strategic objectives.

    Responsibilities

    Reporting directly to our CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will:

    • SERVE AS A TRUSTED ADVISOR: Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and ownership and as a valued member of MDI’s Senior Executive Team while directing the organization’s financial goals, objectives and budgets. Collaborate with CEO and senior leadership on strategic planning initiatives. Guide future investments and facilitate growth opportunities while evaluating solutions and technologies that create value and solidify competitiveness. Ensure profit is maximized in a manner consistent with ownership and company culture. Lead our strategic relationships with suppliers and represent the company with third party service providers such as banking, legal, audit and insurance and our advisory board.
    • DRIVE & IMPLEMENT FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT: Oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting procedures, financial reporting and performance analysis. Report on past performance and prepare future projections. Prepare all applicable financial reports and forecasts including, but not limited to, Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows and Key Ratios to enhance productivity and profitability. Develop financial strategy and implement plans to achieve success through operational efficiencies, continuous improvement and implementation of best practices. Direct all financial goals and objectives, and facilitate the annual budget process. Proactively research, identify, and interpret market trends and performance analytics. Supervise cash management activities to accurately forecast company cash flows.
    • ADVISE ON GROWTH & EXPANSION OPPORTUNITIES: Collaborate with the Executive Team to assess and evaluate growth opportunities. Lead evaluation and pursuit of acquisitions providing the necessary cash flow analysis and all financial modeling. Assist in due diligence and integration process. Drive the negotiation process with potential acquisition targets and all applicable third party service providers.
    • LEAD KEY SUPPORT FUNCTIONS: Lead the Human Resources and Information Technology departments. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate department staff. Communicate strategic objectives enabling teams to move in a unified direction in a productive and profitable manner. Guide our HR Director in overseeing compensation and benefits, payroll administration, performance management, policy development and professional development. Oversee the implementation of all internal system transitions (ERP, CRM, etc.). Coach and enable staff to effectively interact with all departments and ensure policies and procedures are established and clearly communicated.

     

    Location:

    • Position is based in our corporate office in Decatur, IL. Relocation assistance is available.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance culminating in a strategic financial leadership role.
    • Prior experience serving on a leadership team for a privately-held company or family-owned business.
    • Must have M&A experience including due diligence and integration.
    • Ability to manage project and program implementations of varying sizes. Familiarity with IT infrastructure a must.
    • Past experience in an HR oversight role.
    • Demonstrated success in systems implementation.
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field is required; Master’s degree preferred.

    • Ability to proactively identify and implement process improvements is essential; demonstrated approach and methodology for continuous improvement is ideal.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, inclusive of the ability to interact and work well across all levels of the company. Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills are expected.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport across the company while resolving conflict in a fair and consistent manner.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, while demonstrating the ability to delegate tasks appropriately and maintain attention to detail.
    • Excellent negotiation skills and strong business acumen.
    • Customer-service oriented with a high level of integrity and character.
