The flagship publication, St. Louis Magazine, was first published in 1995. SLM’s portfolio now includes several specialty publications and a vibrant website boasting a large and loyal following.     We are seeking a Chief Executive Officer who can provide the vision and leadership to navigate a rapidly changing industry and capture compelling growth opportunities for SLM.  Our ideal candidate will be an industry visionary able to grow revenue, embolden our team, and dig in to actively lead strategy implementation. The leader will have the opportunity to explore new business models and platforms that leverage a well-known and regarded brand. The CEO will enjoy the support of an entrepreneurial ownership group that is ready to invest in profitable growth.


    • STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT & EXECUTION: Guide SLM through the dynamic landscape of the publishing industry. Build alignment among SLM’s stakeholders around an exciting vision for the future.  Create strategies that capitalize on the best uses of digital, print and live experience platforms. Explore new business models with the optimal focus on readers and advertisers. Enable the magazine to take advantage of all its assets, including its large audience. Set targets and hold team accountable.
    • DRIVE PROFITABLE SALES GROWTH – Develop an annual budget and monitor performance. Partner with the sales team to design innovative, multi-platform advertising packages for valued clients. Work with the sales team to develop and implement marketing programs and events to build the SLM brand. Participate in client and prospect meetings with key accounts. Partner with the editorial team to set content themes that engage and inspire readers. Foster a culture of smart business decision-making.
    • COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE – Be an ambassador of the SLM brand to solidify the role of SLM in the community. Identify and cultivate partnerships with all types of community stakeholders and influencers.  Participate in civic and charitable organization events that increase awareness. 
    • TALENT & CULTURE DEVELOPMENT – Build and coach a strong staff team. Set a standard of performance excellence and collaboration throughout the organization. Oversee staff professional development. Model and articulate the mission, vision, and values at the heart of SLM’s success.


    This position is based out of our headquarters in St. Louis, MO.  Relocation to the local area is required, as an active presence in the community will be critical for success in this role. 


    • 10+ years of progressive experience in media, culminating in a senior leadership role. Prior oversight of sales and marketing functions is a plus.
    • Deep understanding of all media platforms, in particular digital, is required.
    • An entrepreneurial mix of executive-level strategic vision combined with a willingness to work side by side with teammates to implement plans.
    • A high level of financial acumen and profitability analysis is required.
    • A strong understanding of the St. Louis community with the ability to quickly earn the respect of local business and civic leaders.
    • Bachelor’s degree is required. An MBA is preferred.

    • Team player who is willing and able to adapt their approach across a diverse employee base and is able to handle challenges from others. Must be open and flexible to ideas and suggestions from others.
    • Operates within the highest of ethical standards.
    • Ability to grasp technology, understanding the capabilities of accounting systems. Self-sufficient in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
