    Due to BMC’s recent and anticipated growth, we are now seeking a talented Senior Director Human Resources to join our Executive Management Team. Our plans now call for a full-time strategic HR leader who will enjoy the challenges tied to our ongoing acquisition strategy. This newly-defined HR leadership role will be called upon to create talent acquisition, performance management and employee development systems that build upon our existing HR practices and enable BMC to achieve its aggressive growth objectives.


    Reporting directly to our CEO, primary responsibilities include:

    • Entrepreneurial HR Leadership – Serve as a key member of BMC’s Executive Management Team and face of HR to all of BMC. Partner with company leadership to to provide strategic HR guidance, including the development, implementation and oversight of training, performance management, talent management, contingency planning and compensation strategy for the workforce. Provide cross functional HR leadership to contribute to overall organizational growth. Reinforce a positive company culture through employee engagement and recognition programs
    • Talent Management – Provide hands-on recruiting support for ready mix drivers, operators, mechanics, and all positions within BMC Management. Partner with senior leadership and subsidiary management to evaluate staffing needs, to develop the appropriate organizational structure, to define roles and develop/execute effective recruitment and development strategies.Welcome new employees to the BMC family and oversee all onboarding, orientation and training programs. Foster proactive relationships with outside partners and develop best strategies for seasonal hiring needs.
    • Performance Management – Foster a business-partner mentality and trusted advisor relationship with subsidiary leadership. Facilitate the implementation of formalized performance management systems and further foster a culture of employee accountability. Assist in management of goal-setting and employee development plans. Counsel, coach, and empower management through required documentation, disciplinary actions and any related termination procedures. Advise subsidiary leadership on best practices for employee engagement, training, advancement, and succession planning.
    • Employee & Labor Relations – Partner closely with COO on labor relations as well as union contracts and negotiations. Work closely with internal leadership, outside legal counsel, subsidiary management, and, BMC employees to assist in issue resolution. Coach and counsel managers in all areas of employment laws and regulations. Address worker’s compensation claims, participate in company’s safety committee, and ensure that investigations are conducted in a thorough and professional manner. Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state and federal laws. Develop the right balance and employ a proactive communication style that allows BMC to fully engage union employees within specific guidelines and work rules.
    • Compensation and Benefits – Partner with our CFO in benefit selection, negotiation process, and in the implementation of new benefit plans. Communicate plan changes and address employee questions and concerns. Develop incentive programs and clearly communicate expectations to produce desired results. Ensure that BMC maintains competitive compensation and benefits policies that balance with corporate goals and objectives. Assist in benefit analysis and alignment with prospective acquisitions and newly-acquired entities, and, guide the company to continuously evaluate innovative benefit offerings and new programs. Partner with Paychex on payroll issues.


    • Minimum of 10-12+ years of progressive HR leadership experience required. Prior experience serving as a member of a senior leadership team is strongly desired.
    • Demonstrated experience and genuine enthusiasm for providing both strategic and transactional HR functions for a similarly-sized employee base is strongly desired.
    • Familiarity with providing HR support and strategy for multiple locations is also desired.
    • Prior experience with HR-related due diligence, acquisition, and integration efforts is key.
    • Ability and willingness to provide hands-on recruitment assistance strongly desired.
    • Experience with union relations and/or prior experience supporting a union work force a plus.
    • 4-year degree in related field is required; SPHR certification or advanced degree is a plus.  
    • Prior experience in a materials handling, manufacturing, and/or construction services is ideal.
    • Prior HR team supervisory experience and oversight for outsourced payroll function also a plus.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on execution of policies, procedures and initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Direct experience and a willingness to work alongside colleagues in a ”hands-on” manner while executing HR initiatives is vital.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact and work well across all levels of the organization. Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills are expected. 
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously. 
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to keep information confidential, build rapport and resolve conflict in a fair and consistent manner.
    • Team player with the ability to adapt his or her approach across a diverse employee base.
    • Proven ability to proactively identify, advocate for and implement process improvements and HR policies.   
    • Strong business acumen, strategic mindset, and a strong eye for talent are required.
    • Strong technology skills, including direct experience with HRIS systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
    • Solid work ethic and high ethical standards.
