Founded in 1934, Saint Gabriel the Archangel (“St. Gabriel”) is a Catholic elementary school dedicated to providing spiritual formation and academic instruction to students in Grades K-8. Based in the St. Louis Hills Neighborhood in South St. Louis City, our enrollment of 500+ students is supported by 34 dedicated faculty and staff members and is rooted within an active, faith-filled parish community. In an effort to further our growth, Saint Gabriel is seeking an innovative and entrepreneurial Principal. Our ideal candidate will provide visionary school leadership while fostering a culture of continuous improvement through close and transparent collaboration with faculty, staff, students, parents, parish leadership, and, our local community. Meeting the diverse needs of our student population while instilling best practices both institutionally and pedagogically is the task at hand.

  • PROVIDE VISIONARY LEADERSHIP (Spiritual & Educational Leadership) – Serve as the spiritual, instructional, and administrative leader of the school. Partner closely with faculty, staff, parents, and parish constituents to develop long-range strategic plans addressing academic standards, student recruitment, and faculty development.
  • ENSURE OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE (Operations & Staff Management) – Provide oversight for day-to-day operations in compliance with state and Diocesan requirements. Lead and develop 34+ member staff, including classroom and specialty teachers, school counselor, learning consultant, band director, and technology coordinator.
  • INSPIRE A CULTURE OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (Curriculum & Professional Development) – Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and best practices. Spearhead curriculum enhancements and technology integration while identifying innovative trends that enhance, build upon and differentiate student programs.
  • ENGAGE OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY (Communication & Volunteer Engagement) – Effectively lead staff, parents, families, volunteers and other community constituents with a team-oriented mindset. Provide timely and transparent communications and the stewardship necessary to sustain strong donor, community, and neighborhood relations.
  • STEWARD SCHOOL ASSETS (Finance & Facilities) – Partner closely with Parish Board of Education, Parish Council and Finance Committee to manage school finances, including new technology budget, and to steward school assets in a proactive manner.


  • A passion for Catholic Education! Applicants must be practicing Catholics with a thorough understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy of Catholic Education as detailed in the Witness Statement for Those Who Service in Catholic Education with the Archdiocese of Saint Louis.
  • Minimum of 3+ years teaching experience and a current state teaching certificate.
  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership/Administration and/or a minimum of 20+ hours graduate work is required. Master’s degree must be completed within 5 years of employment.
  • Proven educational leadership and demonstrated expertise in differentiated student instruction and development of the whole child.
  • Effective communicator who can empathetically build rapport and trust among various school constituents (faculty, staff, parents, students, volunteers, parish community).
  • An awareness and appreciation for the diverse needs of a changing Catholic student population.
  • Prior experience in elementary and/or middle schools strongly preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills are essential.
  • Excellent organizational and technology skills a must have.
  • Humility, confidence, resilience, and a good sense of humor!
