In turn, the Gateway Arch Park Foundation kicks off its historic mission as a conservancy to ensure that the Gateway Arch, its grounds, and all neighboring public space and attractions remain a vital and well-supported resource for years to come.


Having successfully met a $250 million goal for capital projects and early endowment needs, the Gateway Arch Park Foundation (GAPF), a non-profit organization, now stewards the invigorating improvements made through the city’s recent CityArchRiver project. GAPF will continue to work in partnership with the National Park Service, Great Rivers Greenway, St. Louis City, Bi-State Development, Missouri Department of Transportation, and other civic interest groups. GAPF is now seeking a creative and innovative Director of Communications to build a multi-faceted communications strategy, including media relations, marketing and branding strategies, fundraising messaging and social media to support the future of the Foundation, to increase community engagement, and to maintain communications within the private-public partnership.

  • STEER GRAND OPENING COMMUNICATION: With the anticipation of worldwide exposure in Summer 2018, GAPF’s Director of Communications will manage all communication efforts in cooperation with our PR firms to ensure greatest exposure, media coverage and community engagement during our monumental Grand Opening celebration.
  • DIRECT STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION: Work closely with staff and partners to redefine and implement a new communications strategy for the Foundation. Outline goals, timeline, target audience/constituencies/donors, messaging, communications outlets and media strategy, marketing deliverables/collateral and outcome metrics.
  • MANAGE MEDIA RELATIONS: Establish and develop effective relations with all media outlets (TV, print and radio as well as social). Compose compelling press releases and coordinate media efforts, press conferences and other events. Engage Board Members, organizational leadership and other key constituents to serve as spokespersons as needed.
  • DRIVE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Identify and implement innovative strategies for community engagement. Oversee web and social media content (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) to attract event attention and new members. Proactively drive communications in a variety of community forums and represent the organization in speaking engagements (such as Chamber of Commerce, schools, churches, community groups). Explore creation of a Speaker’s Bureau and continuously reinvent new engagement strategies.
  • COLLABORATE WITH PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERS: Build relationships and facilitate communications regarding shared vision and with our public-private partners, including the City of St. Louis, National Park Service, Great Rivers Greenway, Bi-State Development and Jefferson National Parks Association. Ensure a productive relationship for our shared vision.
  • INSPIRE TEAM & TRACK SUCCESS: Mentor, manage, and inspire communication team members with a collaborative team approach. Ensure multiple projects and/or events with competing priorities are managed with excellence and time critical solutions. Set timelines, assign tasks, track progression and goals and report upon metrics to track success from inception to successful completion within communication endeavors.




Qualifications include:


  • Minimum of 10+ years progressive strategic communication, media relations, and/or PR experience. Demonstrated success in executive communication, marketing strategies, and multi-faceted communication plans. Exceptional writing, research and media relations skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business or a related field is required. MBA or a Master’s degree is desirable.
  • Exceptional project and small team management skills, including ability to managing multiple projects and deadlines with strict attention to quality and high-level of detail.
  • Proven technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Competent in selecting and directing social media efforts including familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social venues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to execute short- and long-term programs and special events. The ability to work some nights and weekends as needed for Foundation events.
