Clemco is now seeking an innovative Director of Engineering for a newly-defined role. Our ideal candidate brings a passion for industrial manufacturing, a desire to drive industrial automation and 3D design, and proven team leadership skills. This key leader will partner with all departments, advance engineering strategies, serve as an internal resource, and provide leadership for Clemco’s Engineering Department. Based in North American headquarters in Washington, Missouri, just outside St. Louis, the Director of Engineering will supervise a team of 12 employees and reports to the CEO.
Reporting to our CEO, the Director of Engineering will be responsible for:
DEPARTMENTAL LEADERSHIP & ENGINEERING STRATEGY: In partnership with CEO, develop and implement engineering strategies in support of company growth objectives and fabrication design requirements for a high-mix, low volume manufacturing facility. Establish and implement best practices for departmental staffing, technology, equipment, drafting and design, and policies. Proactively communicate with internal stakeholders. Serve as key advisor to manufacturing, sales and quality leadership. Partner with CFO to manage departmental budget. Embrace an entrepreneurial leadership spirit and foster Clemco’s culture of continuous improvement.
DESIGN EXCELLENCE, MANUFACTURABILITY, & VALUE ENGINEERING: Partner closely with operations to assess and refine production processes for job orders, re-design efforts and new product development. Oversee the provision of product design and supporting documentation, including models, drawings, BOM’s, engineering reports, and validation test plans and reports. Steer the development and design of complex mechanical and electromechanical modules, assemblies, and parts. Lead team in design validation using digital and physical prototyping, software simulation and analysis tools, and characterize product performance to meet engineering specifications. Ensure material compatibility of components, parts and assemblies used in manufacturing and fabrication of products. Verify regulatory compliance of machine, vessels, protective equipment and components according to ISO, ASME, NIOSH, and CE requirements. Participate in failure analysis and corrective action teams for new products.
INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION & ROBOTICS INITIATIVES: Assess and build upon existing mid-range robotic options for automated blast cabinets and spearhead full robotic blasting initiatives. Collaborate with external automation partners to further proprietary technology and cutting-edge advancements in blasting technology and related applications.
NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT: Participate as key leader in Clemco’s new product development, utilizing concurrent engineering processes for surface preparation systems, accessories, and automation to ensure best fit within the overall product architecture. Oversee design and engineering changes, including new product launches and next generation production lines.
LEAD A HIGH-PERFORMING & COLLABORATIVE TEAM: Provide accountability and oversight for 12 team members, including senior engineers, R&D, design manager and 8+ designers. Recruit, train, evaluate and develop the engineering team. Develop and maintain staff competencies and provide access to professional development opportunities. Lead, champion, and complete transition to 3D design. Foster a lean culture through use of best design practices, standards, libraries, and other departmental efficiencies.
